Re: (erielack) Railway Age Article on C-424 delivery 1963

I have a copy of an EMD ad for the SD45 that appeared in Railway Age in the
late 60's. It stated, in part: "The Erie-Lackawanna replaced five
1500-horsepower units with two SD-45s on its fastest manifest trains
operating between Chicago and Jersey City.In a recent month, they averaged
more than 18,000 miles per unit-a record for the line's long freight hauls."
BTW, if anyone happens to have a copy of the RA that contains this ad,
please contact me.

The announced "Century 624" is either a typo, or else Alco planned to use
the same engine as the C424 in the first six-axle Century. The C628
generated 2750 hp and when production began in 1963, it was promoted as the
most powerful single engine locomotive in North America.
