Re: ACC, CA, Instant Adhesive . . . was RE: (erielack) Help with caboose

Kids used to do that for a cheap high; it was called "glue-sniffing" J We
use CA to put people back together in urgent care. Dermabond is 2-Octyl
Cyanoacrylate; CA tends to be brittle and the octyl group gives it
sufficient flexibility for use on skin. CA "keeps" longer if you refrigerate
it, otherwise the shelf life is quite short. Viscosity decreases with the
temperature, so take it out of fridge about 30 minutes prior to using. I use
small glue tubs, available from MicroMark. I get a couple bags when ordering
other supplies. Also helpful is the Microbrush, available in bulk packs of
100. I usually use the tiny-tip white ones, and sometimes I trim the brush
to a finer tip with scissors.

.And you may want to limit your exposure to it; I spent a long winter's day

with the windows closed assembling a Dunmore hopper kit a few years ago, and

by the end of the day, the odor of the ACC was making me pretty nauseous.

Ventilation is a good idea.

BTW, I have also found that ACC works pretty well for the random broken

fingernail, at least for a few days. Glue it, file it smooth, and be more

careful.
