(rshsdepot) GCT closed due to blackout

"To the Editor:
It's remarkable to witness the self-congratulatory attitudes of our elected officials, both state and local, for having avoided widespread civil unrest during the blackout last Thursday.
No thanks to them. Couldn't they have provided school buses, no longer needed by students into the night, to transport the thousands of stranded commuters out of the city? Couldn't they have provided some sort of communications to those commuters as to what to expect? There were certainly enough uninformed uniforms milling around.
And the best goes to Metro-North, which closed Grand Central Terminal to its own customers, leaving them to sleep on the streets and without any provision for sanitary facilities.
A pretty sad spectacle, not one for which offialdom should be congratulated."
